Introduction
Christians and non-Christians alike have been dissecting the Bible for centuries, trying to gain a
better understanding of the purpose of mankind and how Gods’ word should be interpreted. This
has led to a plethora of varying conclusions as to what God’s true story is for humankind.
Today, I will be deciphering the biblical metanarrative, which is broken up into four distinct
parts, and I will be covering two significant narratives in the Bible, creation and temptation. I
will be
discussing the importance of both concepts as they relate to the scripture and their significance in
the biblical metanarrative.
Biblical Metanarrative
The Bible is special, and unlike other texts because it contains a vast number of narratives
through the lens of various authors, however each of these connects perfectly to one another to
create a larger, biblical metanarrative. A metanarrative is an overarching story or storyline that
gives context, meaning, and purpose to all of life. (GotQuestions.org, 2016) The biblical
metanarrative is made up of four major plot lines (or metanarratives): Creation, The Fall,
Redemption, and Restoration. Creation refers to God’s literal creation of mankind and all other
