M1 analyse the advantages and disadvantages to a business setting clear aims and objectives.

Setting business objectives is one of the most important things you can do within your company.
Without objectives businesses would have no direction, no ambition to be successful, no drive to
keep your employees going, and in the long run your business might struggle.

Without clear objectives, your business is likely to have inefficient operations. It will be difficult for
employees to perform productive and coordinated tasks on a daily basis without a clear sense of
purpose of their actions. With aims and goals, your business is able to delegate different roles to
departments and workers in achieving shared objectives.

As one of the disadvantages of setting objectives might be that businesses focuses to one specific
objective and it might leave other important things neglected. I think it is important to focus to all
spectrums of your business and none of spectrums should be left neglected. For example, business
aim could be to increase sales and the objective could be to advertise products more, and if a
business focuses only to advertising, but does not pay attention to producing a product, it might
struggle layer on, if advertising campaign would be success and the business gets more potential
customers, but it is not able to satisfy customers’ needs as it was focused only to advertising but
neglected an actual product manufacturing. However, it might be an advantage, if business focuses
on specific target, as it might be faster achieved if the business put all its resources on one specific
thing, but it also has to pay attention to other things and it should not neglect anything important.
Usually business, when it sets an objective, also sets a specific period in which it must achieve it.
Sometimes, if objective is too challenging, business could run out of the previous set of time, which
can lead to not achieving an objective or achieving it later than it was prognosed. That might vitiate
business reputation, reduce employees trust and it might cause customer to lose.

Developing clear business objectives can be very beneficial to your company. In particular, business
objectives allow management to be more effective when interacting with employee, which leads to
a well-functioning business. One of the biggest advantages of business objectives it that they can
make proper planning easier. With clear objectives in mind, developing a plan to achieve the
objective is much simpler.

I think that it is a disadvantage as it might affect business sales (decrease them) and damage
business reputation. However, if the business chieves its objective on time, it will give a positive
effect to its sales and public relations; also, the business will focus more on achieving its target, if it
has got limited time, which is an advantage. Some goals might put big pressure on employees.
Employees might feel pressure to meet objectives set by their employers. And employees, because
of the high level of pressure, might fail to achieve objectives, which is a disadvantage. Although,
some pressure from employers might motivate their workers to work harder and achieve set
objectives. I think that a small amount of pressure is alright, as it might work as motivation, but too
much it is a disadvantage as it might cause their employees to work slower or not work at all as it
might be too much for them to handle.

One more disadvantage of setting clear objectives is that businesses might spend too much time
planning the objectives. The planning part is important, but the business has to actually work to
achieve their objective, not just to keep planning objectives that they haven’t even started to
achieve yet. By taking too much time to plan it may cause the company to loose some opportunities
to work on achieving an objective. However, it is important to neatly plan objectives to make them
as clear as possible and to improve the time to achieve them.
