Comforts of Home Nursing Care
Our organization, Comforts of Home Nursing Care, is a small company that provides
nursing care within the home. We are located in a larger town with a Level 1 Trauma
hospital facility. The most tenured nurse on our team has been with us since we first started
15 years ago. However, she has recently told us that she has decided to move to work at the
hospital
in the hopes of becoming the Chief Nursing Officer one day.
Our top nurse's loss has forced the organization to look at its strategic planning. The next
most tenured nurse has only been with the company for three years, and while this time is
very much appreciated, if we are to advance our goals, we will need to hire someone with
additional experience. Therefore, the recruitment plan will include pre-boarding, onboarding,
company policies, and practices shall be reviewed.
Specifically, the strategic planning will focus on the following;
Recruitment planning – hiring of new staff, to include management, and
administration
Pre-board planning – focusing on specific roles and jobs for a particular hiring
need
Onboard planning – the onboarding plan will ensure that all new employee needs
will be provided, such as mentoring, training, further education, etc.

considerations, benefits, and retirement offerings. After the interview process is complete, the
person who fits the job and its culture will proceed through the pre-boarding and onboarding
processes. Background checks, as well as drug testing, will be included in the pre-boarding
process. The background check is essential in identifying any potential employment and
character issues. As a company that sends our employees to care for people in their homes, we
must ensure the patient is comfortable in every way.
Pre-Boarding Checklist
When the preliminary steps of hiring are completed, leadership will determine if
continuing with the potential employee should be hired. The checklist below is specific to the
pre-boarding process. This list includes everything that needs to be taken care of before the
initial start date. The pre-boarding inventory is as follows:
- Offer made to a potential employee
- If accepted, have the employee come into the office to complete new hire paperwork.
The office manager should also provide the new employee the company handbook at
this time
- Schedule drug testing
