Organizational Culture is a broad and difficult idea for many individuals to comprehend. The
culture of a company can cover numerous aspects of how the company functions overall but also
is a determining factor in how individuals within the company operates. Culture evolves
consistently based on the most current events within the organization including location and
individuals employed. Employees are generally not aware of this dynamic and how impactful it
is on their everyday job making managing and defining culture a difficult task. According to
Pedro Nascimento, CEO at MIT Sloan Management Review Brazil and Partner at Grupo Anga,
“Understanding and enhancing the culture of an organization is one of the main challenges of the
twenty-first century leader” (2017).
While working at my current job, I have learned a lot about culture and how different a company
performs within the layers of cultural analysis. The first layer of Organizational culture is
obvious to an outside observer and is called observable culture. To my company, that is the
finished, polished and shined horse that is presented to the judges. Every employee has a part in
how the horse looks, from the employees who clean stalls to the head trainers that are the face of
the company, it is our job to make sure the horse looks its best and is presented in a way that is
natural. To the unknowing observer, Royal Arabians has impeccable horses that always look
perfect, and we do it with ease. What people do not know or see is the hours of hard work and
dedication it took to achieve the effortless appearance.
