Leadership an ability that not a lot of people have. Some are natural born leaders
some are learned leaders, but not everyone can be a leader. When thinking of a natural
born leader some may think these types of leaders have just know how to lead from the
beginning. For a small amountthis may be the case, but most have had some type of
mentor in their lives, leadership schools, training, or maybe they learned it playing sports

in school.True leadership means leading by example. Which is taught by the Air Force.
This means doing what you would ask your followers to do. If a leader wouldn’t do it
then he shouldn’t ask his followers to do so.In this paper it will examine key concepts of
leadership in my place of work which is the United States Air Force (USAF). Then apply
what type of leadership theory is mostly used in the USAF along with an example.
Next this paper will explain the effect of power and influence that leaders have
on followers in the organization while showing whether they are receptive and if another
strategy would be more useful. The third item will be evaluating the role and
effectiveness of transformational and transactional leadership in the organization along
with some examples to support this. The fourth topic will assess the traits and
characteristics of an effective team leader within the organization. Next it explains how
the leadership supports vision, mission, and strategy in the organization. Finally, I will
answer the question, if I were the leader in the organization, what would you change and
why?
Now, since this paper is going to be covering the USAF, the military is known for
producing great leaders. George Patton, Colin Powell, Douglas Macarthur are just a few
that come to mind. Situational leadership theory (SLT) is theory that sticks out to be most
attune with the military and the leadership theory style. SLT according to our textbook is
where “leaders observe, change, and adapt to the situation at hand, and leadership
effectiveness is determined by the extent to which leaders can match their styles to their
followers’ styles to meet organizational goals (Weiss, 2015, chap. 4.2, para. 1)”. For this
leadership type it works in a sense that the person leading that there is not just one type of
leadership style. This type of leader knows how to observe, listen, and ask questions
