In this essay, I will discuss the writers’ use of persuasive strategies in the provided
text and how the writer uses this strategy to convince the reader of the text about an
opinion that they may have about a certain topic. In my essay, I will also include an
analysis of how the context, register and linguistic features add to the meaning of the
text and why the writer used these to convey the message in this text.

The context of the text helps to provide the reader of the article with some kind of
background or even helps provide meaning to the text. In this given text the writer
discusses “The challenge of climate change”. He writes from his own personal
experience when he studied biology at college and how this made him realise how
significant the problem of global warming was. By doing this he draws the reader in
and persuades you to see things from his perspective. Later in the article he refers
to a photo he tweeted and how this was a symbol of hope for him, because Elon
Musk liked the tweet. By him referring again to personal experience he reiterates the
personal experience and wanting to persuade the reader.

The writer uses context as a persuasive strategy as he wants to draw you in as the
reader and persuade you to see things through his viewpoint. Besides him making
reference to personal experiences he builds up an image of the real challenges we
face as humans. He lists different issues we face to help build the context such as,
'the inefficient waste of natural resources' (Text A, paragraph 2) and how we as
humans are destroying our rain forests. Because this topic relates to us readers at a
personal level we are drawn in to side with the writer.

The register of a written text is important as it helps to convey the message the writer
intends to carry across to the reader. Register is about the very specific use of
words and in this situation it is used to persuade the reader. The writer has used an
informal register as the writer creates a close relationship with the reader and
discusses the topic with a degree of casualness. The writer refers to personal
stories in this provided Text A, by referring to his studies, ' it was not until I was
studying Biology at college' (Text A, paragraph 1) here the writer draws us in to view
his ideas on the topic. The writer does not make use of any slang in this text so that
the seriousness of the topic is still kept in mind at all times.

The writer of the provided text can also make use of specific linguistic features to
help convey a message and the meaning of the text; I will refer to some of these
from the text and discuss them. In the provided Text A, the writer, Wade Anderson,
makes use of jargon to get his message across to the reader. The discussion he
presents all relates to the topic of climate change. The writer refers to how "James
