federal policies that influence the agency’s funding. The identified policies impact on agency
funding will then be discussed and thoroughly reviewed, as well as the potential threats they may
produce.
Unity Health Sources of Funding
Unity Health is a public, for profit acute care, teaching hospital. The hospital provides
general, specialty, and referral services. “The hospital’s mission is to improve the quality of
health and well-being for the communities we serve through compassionate care and the vision is
to create a healthy community by creating a healing environment that enables people to reach
their highest potential for health” (Unity Health, 2020). It cost a lot of money for the agency to
be able to accomplish the stated mission and vision.

Unity Health has many funding sources. The biggest form of reimbursement for the
hospital is government insurance such as Medicaid and Medicare. The next source of funding
would be commercial (private) insurance and following would be paid out of pocket cost. Unity
Health also receives funding through community donations, memorial gifts, planned gifts,
special events and other sources (Unity Health, 2020).
The Unity Health non-profit foundation is a charitable organization that helps fund the
hospital. Although Unity Health is technically a for profit public hospital, it operates similarly to
a nonprofit because it uses finances from the foundation to assure that the community receives
needed services, medical excellence, and compassionate care for everyone. The foundation has
covered the cost of indigent patient bills and new hospital renovations. The foundation has also
been used to purchase things such as needed car seats and baby items for new mother’s in the
New Life center (Unity Health, 2020). The Unity Health Foundation helps to fill the gaps
through buying the latest equipment and through assisting in services that contribute to the
enhanced care for the community.
Many of the donations come from peer organizations. The North Star EMS donated
12,500, the Helena Health Foundation donated 602,818, the General Baptist Nursing Board
donated 1.2 million, and the Spark Auxiliary donated 292,026 along with many others in the year
2019 (White County Medical Foundation, 2020). The Memorial Donation is money given to the
hospital. In return the donor receives a permanently mounted golden leaf on the “Tree of Life”
with the name of a loved one or a brick, which is then added to hospital’s “Path of Hope” (Unity
Health, 2020). Unity Health also receives funding through events such as Golf tournaments
where the hospital’s President and CEO will speak. For an organization to attend this event, it
