The Journey to Sustainability

As we travel through time strap on your seatbelt, here we go! As wehead into the future

what do we think we will see? The future we will examine is one where the carrying capacity is

, 2

utilized to extend all life and kept balanced. Carrying capacity is the amount of living things the

environment can sustain without starting to degrade. (Bensel, Carbone, 2020)

The human relationship to nature in the future will differ from todays humans because

everyone will participate. All people will acknowledge and contribute to sustaining the

environment around them. Everyone will recycle, reuse all they can. They will not be so

wasteful. By recycling there will be less need to pull from natural resources. Great ways to

recycle at home are using glass bottles, plastic bags, composting. Composting is using some food

and yard waste i.e. dying plants and leaves and turning them into soil. A very rich in nutrient soil

that helps your other plants thrive. (Bensel, Carbone, 2020)

In the future there will be a deconstruction of how things are set up now. Houses will be

built for necessary shelter. On these houses they have solar panels to collect active solar

energy.Active solar energy collected helps naturally create heat, hot water and more.Having

sensible housing left room to rebuild nature. Planting more trees. Natural disasters like

hurricanes tend to create flooding. By having rebuilt the forests it helps in reducing flood. Those

forests are managed by the community. The community participates in the care and maintenance

of the forests for the community’s sustainability. This is known as Community based forest

management. It is natural resource management by the community. (Cheng, 2012)

In this greatly sustainable environment, the ecosystem will be repaired at this time. It is

so full and green and healthy. With a thriving healthy ecosystem, the biodiversity is rich in what

is necessary to survive for all species in its system. Humans have changed the way the do things

by keeping it cleaner, not wasting or pulling unnecessarily from natural resources without

making sure there is something new growing in its place. It is a part of the community caring for
