SOC/315: Cultural Diversity

University of Phoenix

What are the dimensions of cultural diversity? Identify and briefly explain the dimensions by
referencing the text.

With age the pros can be experience while on the other hand the cons can be the people

have less energy to deliver results. Language, education, work style, family status, geographical

location, income, even religion, and race are all dimensions that lead to cultural diversity. I

mentioned age being a dimension of cultural diversity because of some cultures believes in child

labor as something that is of the norms. Children may start working heavy jobs like field work or

building at an early age to help support their family. In some cultures, a normal day for a child is

spent not at the playground, but in a field earning low wages or laboring away to build and expand

their cultures economy. Instead of going to school like we are custom to in the United States, the

children wake up and go to work to help bring food and support for their family.

With what ethnic, cultural, or other groups do you identify? Describe what members of your
social circle have in common.

Culturally and ethnically, I identify with the African American background. I deal with

many stereotypes that have a tendency to paint Blacks/African Americans and bad or negative.

The media seems to portray the negative things only in people of color. Seldom do you hear the

great and positive things that most blacks are associated with or solely responsible for. I deal

with these prejudices on a day to day basis.

At a young age, the Army allowed me to interact with a variety of different races and

cultures that enabled me to see that the pigmentation of my skin shouldn’t try to spill us up from

sharing common thing in life. We share many of the same struggles. The color of your skin

shouldn’t matter we all are the same. I love people the way they are wouldn’t want to change

that and I hope they would feel the same about me. I come in contact with a lot of different

ethnic groups and enjoy each individual as they are (Grafstein, 2019).

What is the difference between diversity and inclusion? The dictionary defines inclusion

as "a relation between two classes that exists when all members of the first are also members of
