Not All Companies Are Viewed as Equal

Consumers are dying at the hands of the pharmaceutical industry exposing us to unsafe products

and by not being able to afford products that can potentially save our lives. It is ethical for the

public to be viewsome of the pharmaceutical industry unequal.Even though some pharmaceutical

companies may sell things that may not benefit consumers it is unfair for all pharmaceutical

companies to be targeted. The pharmaceutical industry has the ethical obligation to protect

consumers. The Pharmaceutical industry has the ethical obligation to sell products that are

healthy to consumers, safe for our environment and affordable for all consumers. It seems that

the pharmaceutical industry is doing more harm than good with the products they are selling to

consumers.

Medication drugs that are healthy for consumers is essential to the consumers health when the

pharmaceutical industry makes product that poses a risk to the safety of the consumers health. It

can create extreme health factors. “And in 2009, a similar issue plagued many drug makers that

, sold antidepressants, which were the subject of protracted debate over whether the pills could

lead to suicidal behavior.” (1). Risks like these can be detrimental to consumers if the

pharmaceutical industry is not careful with the ingredients used to make their products. “In 2004,

Merck withdrew its Vioxx painkiller due to cardiovascular risks and amid questions about the

extent to which side effect data had been properly reported.” (2). Some of these drugs that

pharmaceutical companies produce do more harm than they do good. The pharmaceutical

industry has the responsibility to make safe and sell products to consumers that have been

thoroughly tested. Drugs that are not thoroughly tested can potentially have bad side effects and

outcomes to not only the consumer but also the environment.

Before selling their products to consumers the pharmaceutical industry has the obligation to

make sure they are not dangerous to the environment. “During the past two decades scientists,

regulatory agencies and the European Commission have acknowledged pharmaceuticals to be an

emerging environmental problem.” (1). Pharmaceutical drugs being harmful to the environment

is a rising issue. The pharmaceutical industry must do their job to ensure environmental safety

when selling their products to the consumers. “The results show that approximately 10% of

pharmaceutical products are of note regarding. potential environmental risk. For human

medicinal products, hormones, antibiotics, analgesics, antidepressants and antineoplastic

indicated an environmental risk.” (1). It is important for pharmaceutical industries to educate

consumers on discarding their products after using it so they it doesn’t cause harm to the

environment. “Pharmaceuticals in the waste stream can pose several different types of risk. The

most straightforward is that the active ingredients in a discarded drug could act on an unintended

target.” (4). It is important for pharmaceutical industries to correctly educate consumers on

discarding their products after using it so they it doesn’t cause harm to the environment.
