Personal Goals
Principles of Planning’s
When an individual has completed a self-assessment, when they have established their
personal bassline and identified their strength and when development and realistic career
opportunities have been decided, they are able to plan how they are going to overcome their
goals and also complete their career aspiration. There are principles of planning which
includes –
Setting goals or targets
Drawing up and action plan and implementing it
Monitoring our progress against the plan
Amending or adding to the plan to response to progress and/or changes to
circumstances.
Goals and Targets
Goals are statements of what an individual intends to achieve before they start. Goals an
individual set for themselves can be varied they can be extremely specific such as getting a C
grade in their English exam or it could be something in general such as work within groups
more. Both will require specific actions to be achieved.
Some of your goals maybe easy to achieve but be relatively minor and unimportant, whereas
others will be challenging, require additional work on top of the BTEC course and have
externally set deadlines.
Not all goals will need to be completed in the same timescale, so they may set different
deadline dates for each to be achieved. Some goals may need to be achieved in a particular
order, so the deadline dates will need to take account of this.
Action Plan
An action plan shows how they are going to achieve their goals and targets. The plan for their
PPD should relate to their development as revealed by the –
Areas of weakness identified in their initial self-assessment
Aspects of development needed for their career options
Each goal may require more detailed breakdown into serval small actions, such as –
Make is more attainable through a step to step approach
Be able to make different actions at different times
Ensure you do not omit important steps
Allow you to plan in sufficient time for watch activities involved
Allow some flexibility until a later stage
My plan will become a list of detailed actions which need to be taken in, but in order for
them to be achievable, each much be SMART.
