Arsenic Trioxide - ANSWER Classification: Differentiating Agent
Route: IV
Common Side Effects: headache, dizziness, fatigue, fevers, rigors, reactions at
injection site, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, elevated liver function tests,
myelosuppression
Occasional: Chest pain, pain at injection site, peripheral neuropathy, tremor
Rare: Hypersensitivity
, Special Considerations: Safety and efficacy have not been studied in children
younger than 5 years of age. Monitor QT prolongation. Heather provider

Asparaginase (Elspar) - ANSWER Classification: Miscellaneous, cell-cycle
nonspecific
Route: IM or IV
Common Side Effects: local allergic reaction, hyperammonemia, low
fibrinogen.
Occasional:rash, hyperglycemia, abnormal liver function tests, coagulation
abnormalities
Rare: hypersensitivity with anaphylaxis, nausea, vomiting, anorexia,
somnolence, lethargy, pancreatitis, convulsions, thrombosis, edema, CNS
ischemic attack, renal compromise
Special Considerations: IV administration returning to favor, PEG-asparaginase
has provided excellent asparagine depletion, use of E. Coli asparaginase or
erwinia asparaginase requires meticulous dosing schedules. Have emergency
equipment and drugs available. observe patient for 60 min after each dose.
