What is the problem of evil?
There are two types of evil:
- Natural evil (natural disasters)
- Moral evil (murder, genocide, discrimination)
Evil is a problem for Christians as they believe that God is perfect, omnibenevolent, just,
omniscient and omnipotent. Many Christians believe that suffering is a test of faith and a
punishment for the wicked.
Why does God allow evil and suffering?
There are two possible answers from two different thinkers for this:
- Augustine believe that evil was a lack of good, evil happens when people don't choose good.
-Irenaeus argued that there has to be evil in the world for people to appreciate good. Good is a
comparative, there have to be other, less good things in the world for good to even exist.
