Binary - Answer-is a system that represents information with two digits: 1 and 0. All of
the information is processed by the computer in a form of a sequence and so everything
needs to be converted to binary.
Hexadecimal - Answer-It is a Base 16 number using the digits 0-9 and A - F to
represent numbers.
ASCII - Answer-American Standard Code for Information Interchange. A way of
representing textual information using binary codes using 7 bits and 128 characters.
Denary - Answer-A numerical system of notation which uses 10 as its base. The 10
Decimal base digits are 0-9.
Kibibyte (KiB) - Answer-1024 bytes
Mebibyte (MiB) - Answer-1024 Kibibytes
Main Memory - Answer-Stores data and information and is usually volatile; its contents
are lost when electrical power is turned off. It plays a major role in a computer's
performance.
Unicode - Answer-A character code that enables most of the languages of the world to
be symbolized with a special character identification. (16 bits or 32 bits version)
MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) - Answer-A set of standards that are used to
represent music in digital form. No music is recorded but the instrument being played,
note on/off, pitch, velocity, sequence and duration are recorded in a file. MIDI uses 8 bit
serial transmission.
Lossy Compression - Answer-A compression method in which some 'unnecessary'
information is removed so the original file can never be restored.
Lossless compression - Answer-A data compression algorithm that allows the original
data to be perfectly reconstructed from the compressed data.
MP3 - Answer-A standard format for music files sent over the Internet that compresses
music.
