Summary
Seung-Hui Cho was born on January 18, 1984 in South Korea. Shortly after his younger
siblings were born the family relocated to Centreville, Virginia where the family business was
opened. Cho was described as a shy child that was physically active in sports and had strong
abilities in math, however he experienced bullying from his peers. In middle school, Cho was
diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder with selective mutism and major depressive disorder.
These diagnosis and symptoms progressed throughout high school where he expereinced
emotional outbursts that made it difficult to relate to other school peers. Cho successfully
graduated high school in 2003 and attended Virginia Polytechnic University. On several
occasions Cho’s professors described him as a “bully” which caused several disturbances in
other professor’s classes. In 2005, Cho was accused of stalking female students on campus that
resulted in Cho being admitted to a psychiatric facility due to suicidal ideations. Upon release
Cho developed a disastrous plan for a shooting spree on Virginia Tech campus dormitory, he
