or process the approach that is used is DMADV. This method consists of five stages which
include Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, and Verify. In this week’s case study, the University
of Miami is looking to solve the problem of not having enough on-campus student housing.
While the company that I work for is quite different, as it’s a health insurance company,
some projects can be treated similarly. For this paper, we will be looking at how the
insurance company is deciding if they should implement a new product for pets.
Define
In the Define phase, details are documented to ‘define the project’. It contains five pieces:
establish the background and business case, assess the risks, benefits, and costs, form the product
development team, develop the project plan, and create the project charter (Johnson, 2006).
If the health insurance company had an interest in creating a product for pets, they would
first start with the background and business case. The company already offers quite a few
different kinds of policies, there have been substantial comments on various customer platforms
asking for something customers can combine with their health insurance.
There could be many different risks, but one includes no one purchasing a policy to
warrant continuing to sell it. On the other hand, a benefit could be the ability to offer members
some form of combination discount, and the product has the potential to do very well. Costs
would be limited to staffing and configuring the current company systems to allow for pet health
claims. The team should consist of someone from finance, someone from the product team,
someone from claims, and someone from IT.
