o The totality of emotional and behavioral characteristics
that are particular to a specific person and that remain
stable and predictable over time.

 They influence the way in which he or she perceives and

1. PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER: MISTRUST/PARANOIA
o DEFINITION: Pervasive, persistent, and inappropriate
mistrust of others.

motives and assume that others intend to exploit, harm,
or deceive them.
o Predisposing factors:
 Hereditary relatives with schizophrenia
 Subject to early parental harassment, neglect
 Childhood trauma-react with protective vigilance
and mistrust
 Constantly on guard-hypervigilant
 Ready for any real or imagine threat
 Trusts no one- constantly tests the honesty of
others
 Feel that others are there to take advantage of
them
 Extremely oversensitive and tend to misinterpret
and distort even minute cues
 Become immune or insensitive to the feelings of
others
 Does not accept responsibility for own behavior
 Attributes shortcomings to others


2. SCHIZOID PERSONALITY DISORDER: ALONE/ISOLATED
o DEFINITION: A profound defect in the ability to form
personal relationships.
o Eccentric, isolated, or lonely.
o Social withdrawal, and their discomfort with human
interaction is apparent.
o Failure to respond to others in a meaningful emotional
way.
o Clinical picture:
 Aloof and indifferent to others
