Introduction
Iron is a very important element for the growth of a fetus. Iron-deficiency in women
called anemia is the most common symptom of pregnancy, complicating as many as 15% to 25%
of all pregnancies (Johnson & Pillitteri, 2007). For pregnant women, all minerals and vitamins
are required in large amounts for proper functioning, because the mother uses some of them for
the growth of the fetus.
Janice is a first-time mother in her seven months' pregnancy, who is experiencing the
effect of iron deficiency. The purpose of this dissertation is to talk about the importance of
controlling iron deficiency during pregnancy. According to Bloom's Taxonomy, there are three
learning domains that pertain to the patient’s learning process: cognitive domain, affective
domain and psychomotor domain. Janice’s needs in each domain will be discussed.
Cognitive Domain
The cognitive domain (Bloom, 1956) involves knowledge and the development of
intellectual skills. This includes the recall or recognition of specific facts, procedural patterns,
and concepts that serve in the development of intellectual abilities and skills. There are six
categories for this domain: creating, analyzing, applying, understanding and remembering. Clark
(2015) infers that application is the ability to use a concept in a new situation, and the learner
will be able to apply what is learned into everyday life.
Objective 1: Janice will get the most important information regarding the effects of iron
deficiency on her child’s development and its effect on her own health. She will learn about
normal iron levels, foods that inhibit the absorption of iron in the body, food rich in iron, and the
