Title: Ideal Gas lab
Objective(s):Ex amine the rela tionship between th e volume and temper ature of
a gas using gasses sealed inside s yringes
Hypothesis:
If I place the syring e in higher temper ature w ater ba ths then their volume will increase.
Procedur e:
This lab already includes materials and a summary of steps to follow . List and explain your
controlled variables, independent variable and dependent variable for this lab in the table
provided below .
Materials:
Ideal Gas V irtual Lab
Variables:
Remember , controlled variables are factors that remain the same throughout the
experiment. An independent (test) variable changes so that the experimenter can see the
effect on other variables. The dependent (outcome) variable will change in response to
the test variable.
Variables of for this lab
Independent V ariable temperature of the water , and type of gas
Dependent V ariable volume of the gas Controlled V ariables Amount of gas in syringe
Summary of Steps:
1.Fill a 10 mL syringe half full with air .
2.Fill a second 10 mL syringe half full with one of the following gases ( N2or H 2
or He ).
3.Place each syringe in a bath of ice and saltwater , measure the temperature of the
water with a thermometer and the volume of the syringes and record the data in
the table below .
4. Repeat steps 1-3 for each of the following changes in temperature: Ice water ,
Room temperature water , Warm water , Hot water .
Data:
Complete the table to organize the data collected in this lab of both Air and your gas of choice.
