RRI REVISED CRITERIA GUIDE

Perfectionist Notes
PRIVATE TUTOR FOR HONOURS IN PSYCHOLOGY - UNISA

helping you achieve your best results

,HOW TO USE THE RESEARCH REVIEW INVENTORY (revised)
The review inventory consists of a number of items, numbered sequentially from 1 up to 58.
For research proposals: 1-45.

You can download the UNISA version on MyUnisa. Document title: “Review Log for the
Research Review Inventory MS WORD FILE Unisa HMPYC80”.

RATING SCALE :
Items should be reviewed and rated on a three-point rating scale from 1 to 3.

The ratings are defined as follows:

1: Absent, incorrect, or completely wrong.

2: Only partially addressed. It does not attain the item requirement or criteria.

3: Sufficiently up to standard in terms of the item criteria.

Every relevant item should be reviewed and rated on this three-point scale (1 to 3).

KEEP A RECORD OF YOUR ANSWERS
Use the R.R.I. (revised): Review Log to document and keep a record of your ratings ON THE
ONLINE SITE

REVIEWER COMMENTS AND THE FEEDBACK REPORT
Each rating is associated with general comments.
For example, suppose a reviewer reviews a particular proposal and gives a rating of “3” for the
clarification of the proposed study. The general comment would be: “The research question is
formulated. A research question is derived from the research issue.”

IMPORTANT NOTES
Remember, where the item criterion is not explicitly addressed then allocate a low rating (1).
Good academic writing is clear and transparent. If a reader needs to guess at whether an issue
has been implemented and addressed or not, then the writing is neither clear nor transparent.
Only give a high rating (3) if the item criteria have been explicitly addressed.
