Written Assignment Unit 5

MBA Business Administration

BUS 5115-Business Law, Ethics, and Social Responsibility

Agricultural-Biological-Technology is the future, and a company developing a new “gene”
that would make food more nutritious would have a valuable asset if no other company
could use their discovery. Make an argument as to why businesses that develop modified
organisms should be able to preserve their property rights by patenting such organisms.

It is an accepted idea that the person who came up with a new idea should be recognized and
deserves to take credit for his invention. This idea could help society in one way or another. The
arrangement was basically for ideas concerning physical phenomena or abstract ideas the
originator of the idea will be recognized but no form of financial compensation for the use of the
idea by others. If the idea takes a tangible form the inventor will have exclusive possession.

The legal system provides the inventor a lawful monopoly for a limited period to benefit society

risk their time and money in research and development by providing patents. The law will also
encourage public disclosure of inventions or new ideas which might be kept without the
protection of this law (Zhou, 2015).

There are many advantages that we can see from providing patents for companies that focus on
developing modified organisms by manipulating genes. The patent will provide these companies
ample time to research their discovery without competition, which is useful true for smaller
