Task 5 Accuracy of the methods used to estimate
the purity of the samples.

Aspirin TLC

For the aspirin with firstly used a special
oven to Miley hate the aspirin, Otherwise if
we use the normal oven aspirin will get
burned and we will end up with no aspirin.
Next for the esterification, the catalyst we
used is Phosphoric acid, during
esterification one molecule of water is
Removed from alcohol and acid therefore
we get the aspirin, To get the aspirin we
need 2 hydroxybenzoic acid + acetic
anhydride which gives aspirin + acetic acid
+ H20 gives aspirin.
After we make the aspirin we have to heat it
up to remove any impurities and to dissolve
everything, the impurities can be the extra
amounts, when making the aspirin like:
hydroxybenzoic acid, acetic anhydride..
Reheated of the aspirin to dissolve
everything into one, later on we called it
down to form the Crystals but only pure
aspirin will become crystals they left out the
waste material which is the water with the
impurities, which will be filtered later on.
Aspirin begins to Crystallize because it has
a higher cooling point.
We recrystallize to remove as many
impurities as possible.Literal value melting
point of aspirin is 138 degrees or 140
degrees, my reading was 139.9 degrees, so
this means that my aspirin was done right,
also my % yield is 75% wich is pretty high,
this also proved that my aspirin was done
right.
