P4: Follow procedures to carry out an investigation

What: Car crash and fleeing the scene of a crime. This is believed to be a secondary crime
scene.
Where: Long Road, Bedford, Bedfordshire, MK42 124
When: 06.03.2023, 8:30 pm
Weather: cloudy but dry with low winds
Road activity: minimal

On arrival I measured the tyre marks to be 8.7m long in length. The boldness of them
indicated that the brakes were experiencing significant pressure. Their location aligned
with the information in the witness statement that the car swung round the corner into the
wrong lane.
At the side of the road A loose tyre was found, Its tread depth measured at 4.33mm,
significantly over the legal minimum of 1.6mm. And I used tracing paper to document its
pattern to be used for future reference.

At the collision point, broken glass was found surrounding the windscreen. The car’s rest
point was in the same place. Inside the car I found pills labelled ‘hardcore drugs’, a gun,
hair, bottles of alcohol and a handwritten note that read: ‘You better have my money - H’.
Outside the car was blood. The glass was collected using tweezers and stored in a solid
plastic case, to avoid it piercing through a softer container. Some of the pills I also
took using tweezers and stored them in a labelled evidence bag. I used a swab to
collect some of the blood which I then stored in a labelled biohazard bag. I used
tweezers to collect the hair which I stored separately the same way.
