Analyse the information in the class summary. What are your learners’ strengths and weaknesses?
(max. 100 words)
According to the class summary, the learners’ biggest strength lies in their reading where majority of students have a band
score of 7 and a class average of 6.6. Their writing averages to a band score of 5.8 while their speaking and listening
scores average 5.75, making these their weaker skills.

Which two skills have you chosen to teach in this lesson? Why? (minimum 150 words)
After analyzing the class summary, I have decided to teach listening and speaking in this lesson. The class average of
listening and speaking is a band score of 5.75 which indicates that the students require more improvement in these areas.
In order to increase the students overall band score, it is important to focus on their weakness and provide enough practice
and aid. The two skills are also vital parts of good communication which is required for discussions of all topics. Students
will focus on improving the necessary skills needed to express their ideas clearly, concisely and confidently.

By combining the two skills, students will be encouraged to communicate with each other in the context of work, therefore
making this an effective lesson for students to improve their skills and increase their overall band score and prepare them
for the IELTS test.

Which lesson topic have you chosen? Why? (minimum 100 words)
I have chosen to base the lesson on job related topics as I feel they will be able to relate and develop their own opinions
and communicate ideas based on some form of experience they’ve had in the working world. Work is a large part of our

daily lives and being able to have a discussion about work will add value to the students’ lesson, encouraging them to learn
as much as they can and communicate with each other. Many of the students wish to move to English speaking countries
either for studies or work, so having as much knowledge about this topic will empower students and increase their
confidence. There are also plenty of resources available which will enrich the students learning and further improve their
skills.
