M2-Analyse how the concepts and applications
of cryptography affect data protection and
security.
Cryptography has multiple applications and symmetric key encryption is one of them.
In symmetric key encryption, decryption key can control the encryption key.
Furthermore, for encryption and decryption, only one key is used for both in nearly all
algorithms which are symmetric. Additionally, symmetric key encryption provides
protection to some extent. But it can happen only if this encryption (symmetric key)
stays secrete by both sides. Here is the real-life example of symmetric key encryption,
WhatsApp uses the end-to-end encryption which includes symmetric key encryption to
prevent third parties from taking confidential information and interrupting user’s
privacy.
As I mentioned earlier that Cryptography has multiple applications, here is another
example of it which is Asymmetric encryption. Additionally, the algorithm RSA security
of data has patented algorithms for Asymmetric encryption also known as public-key
encryption. Moreover, an organization needs to authenticate as public key is
integrated with them, while a personal key is integrated with the organization that
needs to verify. In addition, to decrypt your public key only your personal key can be
exploited. Asymmetric encryption is also used in WhatsApp alongside symmetric key
encryption. Asymmetric key is involved in the process of initialising the encrypted
conversation between two users.
Here is one more example of a cryptographic programme which is known as Digital
certificate. Digital certificates include multiple things such as approval of public key,
along with all the information about the person who holds the public key.
Furthermore, it is a data stored electronically. Public key is included for a digital
signature, along with the recognition connected with the key, like entity’s name. There
are many examples of digital certificates such as business ID, passport, driver’s
license, school ID.
Here is another model of cryptographic program known as https protocol. https:// is
used to secure interaction all over the web or a connection. To encrypt the
communication system, Packet Filtering Encryption is used. This has been the most
common technique of sending data from web pages throughout a connection. When
a user visits the website, it is stored on a database and presented to a client
application. Furthermore, it exploits a cryptographic certification from a third-party to
