NUR 514 Topic 3 Discussion Question 1& 2 with Answers

NUR 514 Week Three Discussion Question #1
How have you seen or experienced organizational change within an organization? Did it go
well or not? Was there any correlation in how the organizations used stakeholders or change
models?
This nurse has been experiencing this in a big way over the last eight months since the arrival of
our new Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). There is nothing that I can possible compare this
realignment with. Nothing will be left unturned in every department including processes,
policies, procedures, employee files, and so on. We have completely and totally changed
everything we did prior to his arrival in a very short amount of time. He does have some great
ideas; however, we can’t finish one change without going right into the next which causes
confusion and dissatisfaction. We went from being more of a patient-based care hospital, and
now it is all about quality. Yes, quality is important, but the amount of rapid-fire changes is
really taking a toll on many of the managers and leaders. After learning about the four models
of change that make up the framework (Denisko & Barker, 2016, Chapter 5) I truly cannot speak
to which of the change models they may be following. It seems to be a little of each. I can say
that there is use of the eight steps of change process that was discussed this week (Denisko &
Barker, 2016, Chapter 5) but I do feel that they are using them out of order.
Of all of the models I have been researching, one thing they have in common is that they all
seem to have distinct phases: assessing the problem/need for change, setting change
objectives, implementing change, and evaluating the outcomes of the change (Cameron &
Green, 2019, Chapter 3). As far as commenting on whether the organizational change is going
well, I would have to say no. There are so many things up in the air and the plans are changing
continuously. My organization collaborated with the end users and stakeholders for more of a
“this is what we are going to do,” versus a “what do you think we should do?” I do understand
though that remodeling an entire hospital is a huge job. I came across this passage when I was
researching this week and I though it was perfect: succeeding and making progress can occur
only with an evidence-driven and passionate approach to improving the quality of the
healthcare experience. (Cameron & Green, 2019, Chapter 3).
