Question 1:
What do you believe to be the qualities of a good teacher? To be a good teacher means to have a combination of qualities that complete each
other and help to create a proactive teacher and a rewarding teaching experience. First of
all, to be a teacher means to be a giver. It means being generous because teaching
requires a lot of time and effort and resources. In addition to being generous a teacher
should be fully committed, involved and dedicated to her job, duties, and responsibilities
and most importantly to the learners. Accepting the responsibilities and achieving the
goals and the expectations is very essential for success. Moreover, being a good teacher
requires being passionate and excited and interested in the profession and the field of
education so that the teacher feels happy and satisfied about the tasks and to be able to
enjoy the experience. Furthermore, I believe that a good teacher should be creative and
open to new ideas and able to think outside of the box because this will enrich the
learning experience and make it more fruitful and more rewarding. Similarly, being
cooperative with the team and being organized are two main qualities of a good teacher
because they can help the teacher to improve and work more effectively and it will
maximize the learning experience. Further, a good teacher should be knowledgeable and
well educated about the subject she/he is teaching. A good teacher should be updated with
the recent information and knowledge about the subject area of her/his expertise. Finally,
a good teacher is aware and familiar of different teaching strategies and instructional
methods to accommodate the different learning styles of the learners. Question 2:
Describe your own experience of learning a foreign language. My own experience of learning a foreign language has been a long and
challenging journey. I started learning English at the age of 9 years when my
older sister taught me the alphabets. After that, I did not receive any English
instructions until middle school. I started studying English as an academic
subject at middle school at grade 7. It was very challenging and confusing
because the only time I got to practice the language was at school. So, to
improve my language I started watching English TV shows, radio
broadcasts, and movies. Moreover, I started reading English newspapers,
stories, and books and I used the dictionary to translate all the new and
unfamiliar words. I was able to develop and improve my language skills
which gave me self esteem and self confidence and made me proud. After
graduating from high school, I applied at university and I got accepted after
passing the TOEFL exam for admission. During the four years I spent at
university, I borrowed books from the library and I read as much as I can. I
wrote many essays and my teachers reviewed it for me and gave me
feedback. I used to speak English with my friends to improve my speaking
skills and improve my English language fluency. All of the instructions were
English and the assignments, submissions and tasks as well which gave me
plenty of practice opportunities and enriched my learning experience. Question 3: explain how you might introduce the present simple to a class of beginners.
