One Blood/Introduction to
Abraham
Answer thoroughly the following questions based on this module/week’s Reading &
Study material:
1. Why are Genesis 10 and 11 “significant” chapters?
Genesis chapters 10 and 11 are historically accurate. “Informed readers agree
unanimously, however, that these chapters are strategic and historically significant. Their
delineation of the family of nations illustrates the Old Testament’s universal outlook.”
(Davis 135)
2. T/F—“It would be incorrect to simply identify Hamites with Africans.” Explain
your answer.
True. “In fact it is fair to say that the Hebrew people were more intimately associated
with the descendants of Ham than with those of Japheth. Ham’s descendants lived, by
and large, south of Canaan. It would be incorrect, however, to simply identify Hamites
with Africans (cf. for example vv. 8-12).” (Davis 141)
3. Who is Nimrod? Be thorough.
Nimrod is a decendent of Cush. He was well known as a hunter and as a great man who
ruled southern Mesopotamia. “We know very little of this man, whose name is probably
related to a verbal form meaning “to revolt,” and who is described as a “mighty hunter
before the Lord.” (Davis 142)
4. T/F—The Flood only destroyed sinful men, not sinful nature. Explain your answer.
True. Sin is still in all of us and continued to be even after the Flood. “When man gives it
opportunity, his sinful nature drags him down in spite of the divine revelation and his
spiritual knowledge.” (Davis 144)
5. What language is often considered the original language of all languages?
Hebrew is commonly believed to be the original language. “Of course it is unknown
whether that language resembles any modern language, but until the nineteenth century
the theory that the original language was Hebrew was practically unquestioned.” (Davis
145)
