I read The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. It was published on January
30th, 2013. The reason this novel is called “The Rosie Project’ is because of
Don. Don is the main character and gives everything he does a project name.
His last project is ‘The Rosie Project’, his mission is to win Rosie back after she
rejected him and he starts to realise how important she is to him.
The story takes place in different parts of Australia, mainly around Melbourne.
You can tell by the equipment they use in the novel, that it takes place in
modern times. For example the way he uses DNA to find out who Rose's dad
is. The entire book covers a period of around three months. Because of his
Asperger's, time is really important for Don. He hates wasting time and loves to plan
everything out. He goes to quite a lot of places: cafes during dates, different houses
and a bar when he goes undercover to collect DNA but he doesn’t really pay
attention to the details. He is always focused on the functional and not the way
places look.

Don Tillman:
Don is the main character and the narrator of this book. He is a 39 year old, single
professor of genetics and suffers from Asperger's Syndrome. He knows and
acknowledges the fact that his condition, and therefore his personality, makes him
different from the rest which leads to the fact that he has trouble fitting into a normal
society. Don doesn’t have a lot of friends, really cares about his health and follows a
strict rhythm. He only has one goal, finding a woman who suits him and whom he
can procreate. Throughout the book he becomes more self-conscious and starts to
realize that he can be very selfish, dominant and high maintenance.
Rosie Jarman:
Rosie is the complete opposite of Don, she is chaotic, dresses provocatively,
smokes and drinks, is loud and doesn’t mind wasting time. The reason she acts like
this is because of her rough past and her goal to find her biological father. That is
1 Jimmy Watson's Bar is where Don takes Rosie a couple times to have a drink while they discuss
the Father Project.
2 Melbourne, a city in Australia, the main setting for the story.
