ECE 600: Leadership, Innovation, and Social Justice in Early Childhood Education
As an early childhood education leader, we strive for commitment to supporting social
justice in our communities for the families we serve in our programs and provide high quality
effective leadership skills, and innovative 21st-century learning practices. Teaching social justice
means openness, collaboration, and information sharing keeping all parties informed and
educating the community. The three scenarios listed are occurrences that happen in our programs
daily and as a MAECEL student we are learning through this course how to ethically serve our
families and support staff members in this type of scenarios.
I chose scenario one to address affordable childcare and hiring qualified candidates. As a
leader I will inform the stakeholders I am not able to lower tuition for all children from a certain
area of town and raise tuition for those in a higher economic demographic area so all children
can attend the program. I am an advocate for all children to have quality and affordable
childcare. I will have to explain to the stakeholders how this is unethical to all families and will
refer or offer the families to resources that can assist with program fees for quality childcare. As
a leader you must make an ethical commitment to continually create social, cultural, and
economic equalities of power, resources, and privilege for all children, so they are prepared to be
informed, young adults (NAEYC, 1995).
NAEYC standards 6: Staff Competencies, Preparation and Support states, the program
employs and supports a teaching staff with the educational qualifications, knowledge, and
professional commitment necessary to promote children’s learning and development and to
support families’ diverse needs and interests. I will inform the stakeholders all applicants must
