Kp
Equilibrium reactions are reactions that can go in both a forwards and reverse direction.
In a mixture of gases each individual gas exerts its own pressure on the system. This is
called partial pressure. The size of the pressure exerted by each gas doesn’t have to be the
same but if the gases are present in equal quantities their partial pressures will be the same.
The total pressure of a gas mixture is the sum of all the partial pressures of the individual
gases.
A mole fraction is the proportion of a gas mixture that is made up of a particular gas.
Mole fraction of a gas in a mixture =
Partial pressure of a gas in a mixture =
Kp is the equilibrium constant for a reversible reaction where all the reactants and products
are gases.
