The Roman poet Horace famously wrote, "Greece, the captive, took her savage victor
captive," implying that Rome (despite conquering Greece) adapted much of Greece's
cultural and artistic heritage (“Introduction to ancient Roman art (article),” n.d.).
All around the world, Roman art is recognized for its breadth as well as its height. A
lot of Roman art, particularly sculpture and paintings, is influenced by Greek art.
The difference between a statue and an artwork is that a statue is three-dimensional
and an artwork is two-dimensional. occurs on canvas using different colors, while
carving, such as sculptures, shows the ability to build.
In Roman times, the primary goal of sculpture was to express divinity, so Romans
were heavily involved in the creation of the Gods' sculptures. Any elements of this
art form is intended for decorative purposes in houses, yards, and public spaces.
An important feature of sculpture was the depiction of the emperors' victories. The
main qualities and aims of Roman sculpture have been to illuminate history, to
depict funerals, to expose fact, and to personify feelings.
In contrast, in the Roman paintings' the three most important metrics were
creativity, experimentation, and complexity. The Roman paintings emphasized
birds, horses, myths, gods and goddesses, and daily life scenarios.
Erotic depictions, agricultural life, ponds, wildlife, mountains, and portraits were all
important aspects of the artwork. Paintings were often used to convey sexual
pleasures and related elements, daily life with some form of recreation, and people
gambling.
