During the monitoring and controlling stage, the project manager’s focus is making sure
the project meets the overall criteria that was set by the stakeholders and future customers. They

Monitoring Tasks and Directing Resources
The monitoring of the project’s tasks is a very important part of the plan that needs to be
assessed throughout the project’s life cycle. Monitoring is defined as collecting, recording, and
reporting information about the project (MindEdge, 2014). The project manager is the overall
reviewer of the project and has to monitor the activities to help eliminate or prevent any risks and
make sure all milestones are completed. They “review and update the project’s risk register to
ensure that existing risks are monitored and new risks that could affect the project are detected

structure, responsibility assignment matrix and any contractor agreements to make sure they are
staying on track. Monitoring each step will help determine if the project will stay on schedule
and finish at the projected date.
When controlling a project, the focus is more on making sure the information is used to
help the project achieve its end goals. The project manager makes sure that the resources, labor,
