Dear Lynnette,

Thank you for your consideration in having me be a part of this project. This is a

wonderful opportunity for me to enhance my skills and apply my knowledge into improving

some key areas of the company. I believe effective leadership is mandatory to the success of an

organization and look forward to being a part of that success.

In your email you mentioned the primary issue at hand is the staffs lack of cultural

competence. Cultural competence related to healthcare involves addressing the culturally

specific health needs of patients. This includes sensitivity to issues related to race, gender,

culture and sexual orientation and the process in which providers continuously strive to

effectively work within the cultural context of all clients. (Cultural Competence in Healthcare,

2007). With the population we serve being so richly diverse, it is critical that we represent

cultural competence in our community

To effectively solve this diversity issue, a healthcare leader must possess an advanced

skill set to include effective communication, critical thinking and excellent interpersonal skills. A

good healthcare leader should also stay up to date on current healthcare trends to ensure the best

quality care. All staff members should feel included and have a sense of value and worth within

, the organization. The healthcare leader should make decisions inclusive of the staffs needs and

concerns and develop strategies to address any potential problems that may arise.

To lead this project, I would choose Amber Farner, Esq. Ms. Farner is currently a

professor at St. Petersburg College and participates in numerous community events. She is also a

board member for multiple community organizations including the St. Petersburg free clinic and

the South Pinellas Autism project. Ms. Farner is dedicated to helping others and empowering the

diverse citizens of her community through her work. She actively engages with community

members to identify areas of concern and uses her platform to engage others and allocate

resources to meet community needs. Ms. Farner is a wonderful example of a leader using the

transformational leadership style. Transformational leadership is described as a newer type of

leadership with a focus on the needs of employees, incorporating the ethics, values, emotions and

goals of the followers. (Vision of Effective Leadership, 2017).

While doing research for a nonprofit catering to minority females in south St. Petersburg,

Ms. Farner put together a specific team of women from different backgrounds whom either lived

in that particular community or had done extensive work in that community to adequately

address their needs. By doing this the women who would ultimately use the services offered felt

more comfortable and willing to participate having resources they could identify with. Ms.

Farner and I share similarities in our leadership style in that we do not take a one size fits all

approach to leadership. We understand differences are inevitable and are willing to navigate

followers by being approachable and willing to train where needed. We possess strong work

ethic and determination to achieve goals. I believe other similarities in the leadership style

between Ms. Farner and myself are that we both are willing to put ourselves in multiple positions

and roles in order to better understand a given issue or achieve a particular goal. We understand

an effective leader is flexible, approachable and motivated.
