The Gender Roles and the Affiliation Process in the Media

Influence of Media on Behavior/APMT/440

The gender bias issued I selected is There’s a gender crisis in media, and it’s

threatening our democracy and Katie Sowers being the first female coach in Super Bowl

history. The media story that betrays gender crisis in media is that with having the lack

, of gender equity in the newsroom is impossible to ignore. The MeToo movement has

shown how female journalist theyget the news stories covered. The importance of

women’s reporting goes unseen and they feel like they are being ignore in the world

today. For example, the CNN Climate Town Hall that featured five journalists as

moderatorsand only20% of them was woman. That is a big gap between women of our

population and womenof moderators and their role is to be neutral participants and hold

Presssaying thatwhitemale journalists receive the highest paychecks andthe black

female reporters end up having the lowest pay,LA Times withmale reporters take home

over a hundred thousand annually while female reporters take home less than, and the

Wall Street Journal women earn 92.8% of what their male colleagues earn. There is a

big difference in each of these media earnings. If looking at the gender equity in the

media industry we would see that the women not only making less than their male

colleagues, but there is also less women in the newsroom as well. This means that

there are no equal rights in the newsroom and things need to change from the top.

Closing the gender equity in media is about strengthening our democracy through trust

and upholding the First Amendment’s Commandment the right to a free press. The

mediais already making progress to close their gender equity, increase female
