first aid information. OSHA and state regulators require that MSDS be kept
available in the salon, spa or medical official for all products. You can be
fined for not having MSDS documents available during business hours.

-Environmental protection agency (EPA) - -registers all types of
disinfectants sold and used in the USA

-Disinfectants - -chemical products that removes or destroy all bacteria,
fungus and viruses ( but not spores) on surfaces. 2 types of disinfectants
used in salons

-Hospital disinfectants - -effective for cleaning blood and bodily fluids. They
can be used on any non porous surfaces. They control the spread of disease,
an abnormal condition of all or part of the body, or its systems or organs that
makes the body incapable of carrying on normal functions.

-Non porous - -an item is made or constructed of a material that has no
pores or openings and cannot absorb liquids. (ex: tweezers, scissors, etc.) so

environmental surfaces. Disinfection is not effective against bacterial spores.
Disinfectants must be used in all salons and must be bactericidal (capable of
killing bacteria), virucidal (capable of destroying viruses) and fungicidal
(capable of destroying fungi). Make sure to follow labels.

porous tools. Can use a sterilization machine or boil water and tools.

-Bacteria - -single celled microorganisms that have both plant and animal
characteristics. Looks like tiny bags under a microscope. They generally
consist of an outer cell wall that contains liquid called protoplasm. Can exist
anywhere in the skin, water, air, etc. ( basically everything)
