NFHS Baseball Rules

If batter reaches his first base and all other runners advance at least one base (from time of
pitch) - no penalty - runners advance at their own risk.

Otherwise, the offense may elect to either:
1) accept the results of the play (before next pitch, walk, infielders have left diamond).
2) if attempting to steal, runners awarded 1 base from time of pitch.
3) if no stealing attempts, batter awarded first base; all other runners return unless forced to
advance. - ANSCatcher's Obstruction (8-1-1e)

Interfering with the catcher's fielding or throwing by:
a. Leaning over home plate, or
b. Stepping out of the batter's box, or
c. Any movement, including follow-through interference, which hinders the catcher, or
d. Vacating the area when there is a throw and time to vacate.

2 outs: batter is out.
Less than 2 outs:
1. runner advancing to home is tagged - runner is out. Ball is live. If not tagged, runner is out,
ball is dead
2. When any attempt to put out any other runner is unsuccessful, the Batter is out, runners
return. If interference prevents double play, two are out. - ANSBatter's interference 7-3-5

Batter out:
1. when he enters the batter's box (1-3-5), or
2. when discovered.

If discovery is before the next pitch, defense may elect the result of the play. - ANSUse of illegal
bat (7-4-1a)

Appeal play - before next pitch, intentional walk, defensive play or attempted defensive play,
fielders have all left fair territory, and umpires leave the field of play.
1. Live ball: Tag runner or missed base.
2. Dead ball: Coach or any defensive player by verbally stating that runner missed base. -
ANSFailure to touch base (advancing or returning) or tag up (8-2-1 - 8-1-5)

While touching rubber, the pitcher:
1. Feints towards first base.
2. Feints towards batter
3. Drops the ball
