- La revolución industrial fue el proceso de transformación económica que se inició en
Inglaterra entre 1780 y 1860, y que provocó profundos cambios económicos, políticos y
sociales. La revolución industrial se caracterizó por:
● El paso de una economía agraria y artesanal a una economía industrial y de
producción mecanizada.
● Fue el resultado de una serie de avances técnicos (maquinaria) y cambios en la
organización del trabajo.
● Tres características la definen: mecanización, nuevas fuentes de energía y las
fábricas.
● Comenzó en Inglaterra a finales del siglo XVIII y se extendió por el resto del mundo
en el siglo XIX (Europa, América del Norte y Japón).
● Generó una nueva organización social, la sociedad de clases: burguesía y
proletariado.
2. La revolución industrial
- La revolución industrial fue el resultado de un conjunto de cambios y transformaciones
(conjunto de revoluciones), que tuvieron su origen en Inglaterra en la segunda mitad del
siglo XVIII.
2.1 La revolución demográfica
La población de Europa experimentó un fuerte crecimiento demográfico entre finales del
siglo XVIII y 1900 (mucho mayor en Gran Bretaña). Causas:
1. La tasa de natalidad continuó siendo alta hasta mitad del siglo XIX.
2. La mortalidad descendió como consecuencia de:
● Mejora de la higiene (alcantarillado, jabón) y progreso de la medicina (vacunas).
● Mejora de la alimentación (mayor resistencia a enfermedades y epidemias).
● Mejora de la esperanza de vida.
3. El aumento de población impulsó el estímulo al proceso de industrialización: mayor mano
de obra, mayor número de consumidores.
