1. ASSIGNMENT 1 (TOTB 180 Hour): Teaching Methods

Name: Nelize
Surname: Muller
Date: 24 October 2023

When I qualify as a teacher, I would feel that the best teaching methods to
use and implement in my classroom would be the following:
• The Silent Way, a teaching method that uses visual aids to engage
students through practice, promotes active learning through a more
engaging and interactive approach.
• Why? This will be great when there is a language barrier when for
example teaching online.
• Example: Use a multi-coloured chart, color-coded letters, body
language, Silent Way teaching, and simple activities to teach
pronunciation, encourage speaking, and problem-solving without
verbal intervention.
• The suggestopedia teaching method, which involves music, meditation,
or a teacher's story, is believed to enhance learning by promoting a
relaxed state of mind.
• Why? I have used this method for studying and through personal
experience this method is a great way to be relaxed and release stress
while learning and it stimulates the brain.
Example: Create a forest-like atmosphere in the classroom by playing
background music, allowing students to imagine themselves as
animals, birds, trees, or flowers for one minute.

• Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is a method that promotes
problem-solving, assignments, and participation in teaching grammar,
aiming to help students become comfortable with and effectively use
the language.
• Why? The CLT method effectively addresses language barriers,
promoting clear and comfortable communication, thereby
overcoming potential issues that may arise in traditional
communication methods.
Example: Students participate in a live talk show or guest interview,
using vocabulary and body language to pass meaningful information
to the class.

• The Direct Method is a teaching method that involves native language
learning through participation, without allowing translation into English,
promoting instinctual learning and later improvement in grammar skills.
