Assessment

Based on the information provided by Jeff, the assessment that I would use with his case

is the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). This assessment is used to identify

those whose alcohol intake may have become harmful to their health and life. This test has a

high level of reliability and validity. It a short 10-item test that questions alcohol usage and

habits. It is a self-reported assessment that has “outstanding or excellent in identifying

dependency, risk drinking, alcohol use disorder, any disorder, or risk drinking” (Lundin et al,

2015).

Diagnostic Impression

Based on the symptoms and background information that Jeff provided, his primary

diagnostic impression based upon the DSM-5-TR is Alcohol Use Disorder, 303.90 (F10.20). In

Jeff’s case, his diagnosis will present as severe because of his excessive amounts of drinking on a

daily basis. He has stated that he has a high alcohol tolerance because of how frequently and how

much he drinks. Jeff often feels the need to drink in order to socialize.
