Listening
Listening - General Information
• You will hear people talk, you must answer questions about the conversation.
• You will hear each extract twice. You will have time to read the questions before the audio.
• Remember, you will have 40 minutes and it will count for 20% of your nal mark.
• In total there are 30 questions, divided into 4 parts:
• Part 1 (Multiple choice) contains 6 questions. You will hear three short extracts and have to
answer two multiple-questions for each extract. Each question has option A, B or C. This will
take 3 minutes. This part is very hard, so pay close attention. Tip: Read the two questions
and answers per extract quickly. Then try to visualise the contents of the questions/
answers and underline important words to memorise them better. After that, listen to the
recording.

• Part 2 (Sentence completion) contains 9 questions. You will hear a monologue and have to
write between 1-3 words in order to complete sentences that are said in the recording. The
sentence-gaps are mentioned in chronological order in the recordings. This will take 4 minutes.
Tip: Read the whole sentence in which the gap appears, also the part after the gap. This
might change the words you’ll use. After having read the entire text with gaps, listen to
the recording closely and try to nd the missing word/short phrase.

• Part 3 (Multiple choice) contains 5 questions. You will hear a recording and have to answer
multiple-choice questions with four options each (A, B, C or D). This will take 4 minutes. Tip:
Quickly read the rst question and the answers for it. After that, underline key words in
the answers! Then do the same with the second question and its answers, the third one,
etc. Try to visualise the answers quickly to memorise them better. After having done this
for all questions/answers, listen to the recording carefully.

• Part 4 (Multiple matching) contains 10 questions. You will hear ve short extracts. There will be
two separate rows of answer boxes (boxes 1-5 and boxes 6-10). This means that for every
extract, you’ll have to ll in 2 boxes. For each box you’ll have to match the extract to one out of
eight sentences which ts best with that extract. So, you’ll have two rows of eight sentences
next to each row of boxes. Because there are 5 boxes to be lled in per row and 8 sentences/
answers per row, this will mean that you will have to leave out 3 sentences/answers. Tip: First
read the two rows of sentences/answers carefully and underline important parts. Then,
when the recording starts, match them to the boxes. If a sentence/answers matches a
box even so slightly, then write it down next to the box with a question mark or star next
to it. Afterwards, you can choose the best sentence/answer per box.

Listening - Tips
• Whilst the voice is explaining how to do the exercises you can already look at the questions on
your own and think about the answers! That way you’re 10 seconds ahead!

• You will get a “D” or “F” very quickly with the Listening exam, so focus really well.
• Make notes during the exam on an external piece of paper if this helps you.
• If you can’t hear the recording, raise your hand immediately.
• If the recording is playing and you haven’t read the matching question yet, always listen to the
recording rst, since it’s more important.
